September 29th session (1pm to 5pm): Influencing Digitally and Digital Isolation and Loneliness in the Workplace. (4 PDUs: 1 Technical & 3 Leadership)
Part I: Influencing Digitally
Influence is at play all the time, and great leaders are highly proficient at using it properly to get buy-in or sign-off, effect resource allocation, and overcome resistance to ideas or plans. It is our personal influence that drives our ability to successfully move others to act. This is how decisions are made. Matrix org charts, cross-functional teams, and globally outsourced projects require every employee to have the ability to influence team members to generate results no matter a person’s job seniority, culture, gender, or age.
In our current remote work from home environments, this is being done via online, virtual tools such as email, video meetings, text/chat, discussion threads, collaboration sites, and now more than ever, via phone calls. Digital influencing success goes beyond solid motivational abilities; it means aligning the right communication tool with solid usage skills for maximum impact.
Learning how to influence in a mutually beneficial manner with solid digital tools use is a skill no leader can be without.
Part II: Digital Isolation and Loneliness in the Workplace
Bridging Distance is founded upon and driven by research. In July 2019, they launched their annual research project, this time looking at the impact of digital isolation and workplace productivity.
Last March, as we were knee deep in data analysis, the world was thrown into the greatest work from home global experiment of all time. People who were used to dropping by someone’s cube, briefly chatting with others in the hallway, and sitting together in conference rooms day in and day out suddenly found themselves working in isolation from their colleagues, often surrounded by family. For many, this remote work environment lead to feeling alone or disconnected from your colleagues and company activity.
As the final part of this series, we will share the findings of that research, and help you each apply this work to your current project environments. Join us to share your thoughts about the challenges and/or opportunities of a physically-separate business environment, and discussion on problems, solutions, tips, and strategies.
